Train to become a driving instructor (ADI) with A-Class-School-Of-Motoring

A-Class School of Motoring was formed in May 1999 and since that date the company has expanded to become the largest independent driving school in Shropshire. This is due to the high quality of our instructors who are dedicated to giving professional driving instruction.

Due to our continuing success our objective now is to become the UK’s largest independent Driving School whilst also maintaining our high standards. To meet this goal the company is continuing the recruitment and training of instructors.

A-Class School of Motoring has also become the First ORDIT Registered driving instructor training establishment in Shropshire. All our training is done under strict Driving Standards Agency guidelines. So you can train with us in confidence.

If you are interested in becoming an A-Class School of Motoring driving instructor this prospectus will explain to you what is required to qualify as a DSA approved driving instructor.

Am I suitable ?
In order to become an ADI you must fulfil the following criteria: -
  • Have held a full car driving licence for 4 out of the last 6 years.
  • Be a fit and proper person to have your name entered onto the register. All convictions, including motoring offences still in force, will be taken into account.
  • Be a patient and enthusiastic person.
What Does the Course Involve?
  • Part One - 100 multiple choice questions & hazard perception test (Unlimited attempts)
  • Part Two - Driving Ability test which last 1 hour (only3 attempts allowed)
  • Part Three - Instruction Ability Test which last 1hour (only 3 attempts allowed) You must pass parts 2 & 3 within 2 years of passing part 1 or start with part 1 again. We will provide you with all the materials necessary to pass these 3 examinations.
Where and when will I do my training ?
  • Part 1 can be home study or a distance learning course with continual help .
  • Parts 2 & 3 Instruction will normally take place at our training centres which are located at Shrewsbury.
  • Parts 2 & 3 Test can be booked and arranged to suit your needs. We are a flexible company our courses are designed to fit in with your current needs and present employment (We recommend that you keep your current employment whilst training).
  • Grants may be available subject to suitability and circumstances
What does the course involve ?

Part One - 100 multiple choice questions (Unlimited attempts allowed).

There are 4 categories of question, these are: -
  1. Road craft
  2. a) Traffic signs and signals
    b) Car control
    c) Pedestrians
    d) Mechanics
  3. a) The Driving Test
    b) Disabilities
    c) The Law
  4. a) Publications
    b) Instructional Techniques
You must achieve 80% in each band and 85% overall to pass. The exam takes 90 minutes and contains 100 multiple choice questions. Your Hazard Perception result must be a minimum score of 57.

 All the recommended books to study together with 4 dedicated workbooks covering all the subject areas. These will help you now and throughout your career. Full support is only a phone call away.

Part Two - Driving Ability Test (3 attempts allowed).

You will be expected to be able to perform the following: -
  1.  Eyesight Test
    • Read a car number plate from 27.5 m with glasses or contact lenses if needed.
  2. Driving Technique Test
    • Expertise in handling of the car's controls.
    • Use of correct road procedures.
    • Anticipation of and reaction to the other road users' actions.
    • Correct judgement of distance, speed and timing.
    • Consideration for the convenience and safety of other road users.
    • Consideration for the convenience and safety of other road users and environmental conditions.

What we provide for you: -

20 hours in car tuition on a one-2-one basis designed to bring your own driving up to the standard required to pass part 2 and a comprehensive manual covering the whole syllabus.

Part Three - Instruction Ability Test (3 attempts allowed).

The examiner takes the place of the pupil and asks you to instruct him in two of the following subjects: -
  • Safety precautions of entering and leaving the car and explanation of the controls.
  • Moving off and stopping.
  • Reversing around a corner.
  • Turn in the road.
  • Parallel parking.
  • Emergency stop and mirrors.
  • Approaching and turning corners.
  • Judgement of speed, making progress and positioning.
  • Junctions.
  • Crossroads.
  • Pedestrian crossings and signals.
  • Overtaking, meeting and clearance.
  • A client applying for a job and having to take an assessment drive.
  • A client been driving for a number of years and was not taught the reverse parking manoeuvre therefore needs to be taught the reverse parking manoeuvre.
  • His/Her company has relocated on the other side of town which now means they have to drive to through built up areas and they wish to brush up on their driving skills for these areas.
  • Been living abroad and needs to brush up on UK driving skills.
The Part Three test is in 2 phases each of the 2 phases will take about 30 minutes, and you will be expected to instruct to the level advised by the examiner i.e. beginner, test standard etc.

What we provide for you: -

You will receive 40 hours instruction on a one-2-one basis this will enable you to teach and be fully prepared to instruct for the qualifying examination (part 3). A comprehensive part 3 manual and a colourfile professional visual aid for not only the test but, for the rest of your career is provided.
