Work-Related Road Safety (WRRS)While your employee is driving on company business, they are classed as being “at work”. The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 requires you to ensure, as far as is reasonably practicable, the health and safety of all employees while at work. You also have a duty to ensure that others are not put at risk by work-related driving activities.According to the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, it is your responsibility to effectively manage health and safety. You must carry out health and safety risks of your employees, whilst they are working, and to other people who may be affected by your employees’ work activities. Regulations require you to review periodically your risk assessment so that it remains appropriate. In order to comply, you will need a Work-Related Road Safety Policy. Benefits of Managing WRRSThe actual cost of an accident is nearly always greater than simply the cost of repairs and insurance claims. The smaller the company the greater the consequences of an accident, however, the benefits of a properly managed WRRS are considerable no matter the company’s size.

Fuel efficiency means:
Where operators actively monitor and manage the fuel used by vehicles, a fleet’s fuel consumption can typically be reduced by 10%, with an equivalent cost saving. Use of safe and fuel-efficient driving techniques as part of fuel management will make a major contribution to this fuel saving.
